Two men, one woman arrested in alleged hate crime against women
Two men and one woman have been arrested in the alleged murder of a Hindu couple in their home in Irvine, authorities said on Wednesday.
The suspect, who police identified as a 29-year-old woman, was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree assault, first- and second-level burglary and possession of an assault weapon, Irvine Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer McKeown said in a statement.
The couple’s 14-year old son was in the home at the time of the shooting, and authorities did not immediately know whether the boy witnessed the shooting.
Irvine police were investigating whether the killing was motivated by a hate crime, a homicide investigation or both.
The investigation is ongoing, McKeon said.
The Irvine Police Dept. does not comment on pending cases.
