Which apartment is the most eco-friendly?
In 2016, a California couple spent over $1,000 on an eco-tourist apartment in the Los Angeles area, and they’ve now spent almost $400,000 in their new digs.
Their eco-centric apartment, called The Green Door, is located in a building that was recently converted to a new condominium development.
The Green Door’s website describes it as “the world’s most energy-efficient living room.”
In an interview with The Huffington Post, the couple’s daughter, Tristan, explained that the apartment’s design is all about minimizing heat output.
“The Greendoor is made up of four floors, which has a thermostat that measures how much heat you’re using,” Tristan said.
“If you’re heating a room up with a regular fan, it’s only going to produce a little bit of heat, but if you’re running a water heater that’s getting so hot it’s turning the water on the radiator off, then it’s going to be a little more intense.”
“The entire thing is designed to conserve energy.
It’s not about maximizing energy,” she added.
The couple’s apartment includes a laundry room, a refrigerator, an oven, and a freezer.
Tristan told the Huffington Post that she hopes the Green Door will encourage people to save energy by buying a reusable water bottle, and that the unit can be recharged by simply turning on a faucet or a shower head.
The pair also believe that the Green House will also save energy, by reducing the amount of electricity used to heat the apartment.
“It’s the most energy efficient living room in the world, because the whole building is designed that way,” Tricia said.
The owners of The Green House did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
